‘Sagip Ilog’ nearing completion
March 24, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The P700-million Sagip Ilog project being undertaken by the City Government is almost finished, save for finishing touches and additional improvement works Mayor Oscar Rodriguez ordered to be done.
Rodriguez, city officials and consultants of the project inspected the entirety of the Sagip Ilog stretch from barangays San Juan to San Felipe on Monday afternoon.
Sagip Ilog consultants led by Brent Berry and Engr. Lita Manalo told Rodriguez that the project would be completed by the end of May this year.
“If that is so, then prepare the estimate of additional works so the project could be inaugurated by the President [Benigno Aquino III] this May,” Rodriguez said.
He ordered the removal of illegal structures, silt and the concreting of earth dikes.
“If that is not done, babalik lang lahat iyan sa ilog, that is certain. This is our show window and it must be done accordingly to specifications,” he added.
The budget for the additional works, which includes the building of bridges, would be sourced out from the city’s savings, he said, adding critical points like the Balimbing Creek in Sitio Panlumacan must be widened and cleaned.
Sagip Ilog supervising engineering Efren De Leon expressed confidence that the project would be finished on time for its inauguration.
He said all the additional improvement works are covered under Package 3 B in the project’s second phase. (Jovi T. De Leon)
