Casiño lauds ordinance against discrimination

ANGELES CITY–A senatorial bet has lauded the city government for joining other key cities in passing anti-discrimination ordinances.
Makabayan senatorial candidate Teddy Casiño congratulated the local LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders) community for successful lobbying and advocacy work, as well as key city officials who supported them.
“I am extremely heartened that our anti-discrimination campaign has been gaining ground in various cities across the country,” Casiño said while citing the cities of Cebu and Davao for having passed their own ordinances in 2012.
The anti-discrimination ordinance here was authored by Councilor Maricel Morales along with Councilors Edgardo Pamintuan Jr., Jericho Aguas and Alex Indiongco.
The approval of the ordinance makes Angeles the first Luzon city to have such a policy and third in the country after Cebu and Davao.
It points out that discrimination is committed when a person withholds from, excludes, restricts, curtails, demeans human dignity or impairs its recognition.
It also identifies discrimination as preventing people of different sexes, genders, religious affiliations, ethnicity or nationality or appearance from availing themselves of services or products supposedly applied to all.
Congressman Casiño, however, said the national law that covers the anti-discrimination has not been passed.
Casiño explained that the anti-discrimination bill being tackled by the bicameral conference committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives has been delayed due to debates on whether to include discrimination against LGBTs in the provisions. Some lawmakers are pushing for provisions on racial, ethnic and religious discrimination only.
“I hope that other cities can legislate similar ordinances but it would be better if we have a law against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) as contained in House Bill 1483,” Casiño said.
“LGBTs do not want nor claim additional ‘special’ or ‘additional rights.’ All they want are the same rights as those of heterosexual persons that are denied–either by current laws or practices–basic civil, political, social and economic rights,” Casiño said.
Casiño is the author of House Bill 1483, also known as the LGBT Rights Bill which has been incorporated with other bills on discrimination involving race, ethnicity, religion and others at the Bicameral Conference Committee. •Charlene A. Cayabyab

Also available are the 1997 and 1998 vintages of the same wine.

there is no reason why 90% of wine lovers think of red wine when they think of Bordeaux; indeed for fans of Sauvignon Blanc who long for a white wine that is less grassy and has a little more in body and substance, these superb white wines from Bordeaux’s Graves appellation is the perfect dinner wine for a very large variety of white-wine dishes; shellfish dishes are particularly favored but they are also an ideal companion for pork also.

Kids enthusiastically participated in every game prepared for them. An 8-year old kid won the longest Ho, ho, ho as she mimicked Santa’s famous laugh.
