the richness and intensity of flavors for a good white wine from Meursualt have besotted fans of Chardonnay for ages; 1999 was a fantastic year in Burgundy for both red and white wines, even though it was only pretty good in Bordeaux; these wines have amazing ageing potential as this 1999 Mersault shows us; this wine is matured and ready to show us a good time, for years to come; pair this with seafood, poultry and white meat even if the sauce is a little heavy; it is great with a variety of soft cheeses also; enjoy! Also available are the 1997 and 1998 vintages of the same wine.

there is no reason why 90% of wine lovers think of red wine when they think of Bordeaux; indeed for fans of Sauvignon Blanc who long for a white wine that is less grassy and has a little more in body and substance, these superb white wines from Bordeaux’s Graves appellation is the perfect dinner wine for a very large variety of white-wine dishes; shellfish dishes are particularly favored but they are also an ideal companion for pork also.

Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin sent a letter to Angeles City Division of City Schools Superintendent Luz Arriola on January 11 asking for a follow-up on the case of the 10 public school teachers from Northville Elementary School.
In a letter addressed to Arriola, Lazatin cited reports claiming that several people, whose names were included in the list of job order employees in the recently concluded Cultural Mapping Program of the City Tourism Office and allegedly received a salary of P600 to P650 per day, denied receiving the said amount.
A copy of Lazatin’s letter has been forwarded to President Benigno Aquino, III and Department of Education Secretary Brother Armin Luistro.
One of the said teachers is Catherine Garcia, daughter of Barangay Lourdes Sur Kagawad Daniel Gutierrez, who claimed that she participated in the program voluntarily and did not receive any salary from the city government.
Earlier, senior citizens’ leader Francisco Esguerra, whose name was also included in the list, also denied receiving salary from the city government.
In his appearance in a local radio show, Esguerra explained that he, along with other members of the senior citizens’ federation, participated in the Cultural Mapping as volunteers and did not receive the said P600 to P650 daily salary.
Also included in the job order list is Barangay Margot Kagawad Nenita Ferrer who, earlier, joined several other alleged “ghost employees” of the city government in filing a supplemental complaint affidavit before the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon.
The affidavit filed by Ferrer and the other witnesses are in support of the original complaint filed by local mediaman Robledo Sanchez against Pamintuan, City Accountant Wilfredo Tiotuico, City Budget Officer Fe Corpuz, and City Treasurer Juliet Quinsaat in relation to the controversial job order appointments of the city government.
Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon Adoracion Agbada recently ordered Pamintuan and company to submit their counter affidavit within a period of ten days upon the receipt of the order.
Sanchez revealed, however, that on January 7 he received a copy of the Motion for Extension of Time submitted by Pamintuan and company asking the Deputy Ombudsman to extend the period of filing their Counter Affidavit and grant them an additional 15 days from January 7 to January 22.
Failure on the part of the Pamintuan camp to file their counter affidavit within the period allotted by the Deputy Ombudsman will be considered a waiver of their right to file a counter affidavit and other controverting evidence and will result to the submission of the case for resolution. ●

JOs slam Lazatin’s CSC complaint

ANGELES CITY–Job order (JO) employees of the city government laughed off First District Representative Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin’s complaint with the Civil Service Commission as “a product of a dirty and twisted mind.”
JO employees even reminded the 78-year old congressman that job order personnel are “not covered by civil service and administrative rules and regulations due to the non-existence of employee-employer relationship.”
John Sladky, spokesperson for the JO employees, said that “even though we are not covered by CSC and administrative regulations, we still confirm with these measures as we conducted our mass actions before and after office hours, and during lunch break from 12 noon to 1 p.m.”
“This only proved our earlier statement that the 78-year old Mr. Lazatin did not really wait for the JOs in his residence at Barangay Telebastagan as claimed in his own press release and Facebook account postings. Mr. Lazatin was so angered by our protest actions and he wanted revenge. But sad to say, he is wrong again. We conducted our actions within the bounds of pertinent civil service and administrative regulations even though we are sure that those do not cover us,” Sladky added.
JO personnel conducted several mass actions in protest of what they called as “Lazatin’s political harassment.”
Around 1,500 JOs gathered at Plaza Miranda on November 15, 2012 for the “lunch break rally.” They wore black armbands for almost two weeks as a sign of protest.
“Mukhang totoong nagiging makakalimutin na si Ginoong Tarzan Lazatin. Hindi na niya alam ang tama sa mali. Kung sabagay, matagal nang ganyan ang kanyang karakter. Ayaw niya na mayroong nagrereklamo laban sa kanya dahil hindi siya sanay na nagpapaliwanag. Kaya nga ditak a salita ang kanyang islogan. Wala talagang kayang sabihin na tama. Gusto niya kahit mali na siya ay tama pa rin. Noong siya ang mayor sa loob ng 9 na taon, daan-daan ang JOs pati na si Mhed David. Walang nag-kwestyon dahil hindi naman talaga bawal,” Sladky said.
Pertinent civil service rules and regulations stated that JO hires are not government employees performing regular functions, and no employee-employer relationship exist between the concerned personnel and the government office. ●Charlene Cayabyab
