1.5 hectares allotted for landslide victims
February 1, 2011
ARAYAT — Representative Aurelio Gonzales (third district, Pampanga) bared plans with the National Housing Authority (NHA) to develop a 1.5-hectare land in San Juan Baño for the housing of landslide victims here.
Gonzales told Sun.Star Pamapanga that a P10-million fund has been allocated for the project, which includes the full development of the area and the construction of a minimum of 100 houses.
He said the NHA could no longer procure lands for housing development, which is why he is willing to have the land — which he bought from personal funds for the relocation of landslide victims here — for full development under the NHA.
It could be recalled that a landslide in September 2009 left 12 people dead in this town and close to a hundred more homeless. Gonzales donated the needed space for relocation.
More than a year, landslide victims stayed under the tents provided by a cause-oriented group until the Provincial Government initiated the construction of the bunkhouses.
Gonzales said the new development will bring a more permanent solution to the housing needs of the people affected by the landslide.
The full development, he added, will bring in the necessary infrastructure development once the houses are constructed.
Gonzales said roads and facilities like covered court and function halls are now being planned by his team to pave way for the full recovery of the people affected by the disaster.
The NHA and Gonzales are set to make a final inspection of the area for the finalization of the additional items on the program.
