Council wants hog farm’s permit withheld

ANGELES CITY — The City Council has approved a resolution urging Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan to withhold the issuance of a business permit to a hog farm that was found to be in poor state.
The hog farm in Barangay Cutcut was found to be lacking the appropriate water treatment and gasifying facilities to handle the waste of some 7,200 pigs inside the facility. It is located just a few meters away from the posh Carmenville Subdivision and the Holy Mary Memorial Park.
The City Council, in its Resolution 6059, Series of 2011, said the Kennon Farm in Barangay Cutcut should comply with pertinent environmental laws before they will be granted a mayor’s permit by the City Government.
The resolution stated that “the committee on environment and natural resources rendered a report setting forth certain violations of environmental laws committed by the said establishment.”
People who reside near the farm are inconvenienced and threatened by the stench, said Councilor Edu Pamintuan, chair of the City Council committee on health, environment and natural resources.
“The suffering of the people must stop and we must act now,” Pamintuan said.
He explained that local government units have the discretion to approve or disapprove the business permit applications of piggery and poultry farms. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
