Angeles police chief relinquishes post
January 31, 2011
ANGELES CITY — Senior Superintendent Danilo Bautista has relinquished his post as Angeles City police director following a controversy involving his men, who were accused of extortion by a suspected drug dependent.
Bautista reportedly gave up his position because of the case involving Chief Inspector Rico Cayabyab, head of Police Station 1, and his men SPO2 Ronald Santos, PO3 Michael Villareal and PO2 Cyrus Lising, who were accused of gypping P400,000 from a man caught allegedly sniffing marijuana inside his car.
Bautista is now assigned at the Camp Olivas police headquarters in the City of San Fernando and he will be replaced by Senior Superintendent Melchor Reyes.
Reyes became head of the Mabalacat Police Station and Central Luzon police intelligence unit.
The four beleaguered police officers allegedly asked the 40-year-old man, who was caught sniffing marijuana inside his car last January 19, to settle the case for P400,000.
After giving the money, the drug suspect reportedly filed an extortion case against the police officers.
With this, Congressman Carmelo Lazatin asked the leadership of the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame and Camp Olivas to investigate the case.
Bautista earlier said that the four officers were relieved from their respective positions at Police Station 1 and were reassigned to the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit of the Angeles City Police Office effective January 21.
Senior Inspector Ellaine Villasis took over as officer-in-charge of Police Station 1. (RGN)
