Pineda cites gov’t anti-flood thrusts

APALIT, Pampanga – Gov. Lilia Pineda announced on Wednesday here various projects of the national government to drastically limit the effects of perennial flooding in Pampanga.
Pineda, in her speech during the meeting of villager leaders of the eight towns in the province’s Fourth District, said the Aquino government, through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), “had been doing much” to solve the yearly problem of flooding.
The 62-year-old governor disclosed that the DPWH will use at least P600 million for the Phase II of the Pampanga Delta Development Project.
Its completion will benefit both Pampanga and nearby Bulacan province, including the flood-prone towns of Hagonoy and Calumpit. Both Bulacan towns are near Apalit.
Pineda cited the on-going dredging in Pampanga, including the DPWH’s P23 million operations at the Pampanga Delta.
She said the DPWH’s project at Pampanga Delta done before the rainy season will reduce the effects of floods in the Fourth District, including that in the towns of Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin, Sto. Tomas and Apalit.
Pineda said the DPWH will use at least P50 million for the dredging operations, including at the Pampanga-Pasac Delta.
