Pacquiao wants to erase doubts in 4th Marquez bout
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing rivals Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao of the Philippines and Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico are adding a fourth act to their legendary rivalry as they officially announced plans for another showdown.
The historic fourth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez will take place in Las Vegas on December 8, with the hopes of finally ending the argument as to who is the best.
Pacquiao and Marquez, who have won world titles in 12 different weight divisions between them, are considered among the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
They have met three times, with all three encounters ending in controversy. Their latest bout, last November in Las Vegas, ended with Pacquiao winning via majority decision even as most boxing pundits believe Marquez had done enough to win.
“This fight is going to be a great fight because I want to erase all doubt for the fans of boxing,” Pacquiao said.
“There are so many people saying if I really won the fight, and I said, ‘Yes, I won the fight no doubt.’”
“But Marquez claims he won the fight, so I think something is wrong,” he added.
For Marquez, the fourth opportunity to climb inside the ring against Pacquiao is a chance to set the record straight. The Mexican legend firmly believes that he won all three bouts against Pacquiao, yet has never gotten the nod of the judges.
“People say, why again, why again with Pacquiao. I said, because I want to prove who is better. I want the referee to raise my hand,” Marquez said.
“Finally, I am training very hard for December 8. I will be ready to fight and I will be ready to win again. Because I don’t like the judges’ decision, because everyone knows what happened in the first three fights,” he added.
Pacquiao, who is coming off a controversial loss against American Timothy Bradley last June, promised to be in his best form against Marquez.
“I need the fight to be short and to not have any doubts,” he said. “I want to show the real Manny Pacquiao.”
“I want to show the 24-year-old Manny Pacquiao, the hungry Manny Pacquiao in the ring.” – Report from ANC.
