iPhone 4s fever hits Manila

AFTER weeks of waiting, the coveted Apple iPhone 4S finally arrived in the Philippines.
At the crack of dawn Friday, local mobile carriers opened their doors to avid iPhone users in the city. Rival companies Globe Telecom and Smart Communications celebrated the event with a bang.
Smart had a campout at the Rockwell tent where it launched the new Apple device. Globe, on the other hand, celebrated the iPhone debut with a big party at the Ayala Museum. Both were attended by local personalities and their loyal subscribers.
Globe’s service centers in selected areas immediately accepted iPhone 4s orders and released the first batch of Apple mobile devices.
In a press conference Friday afternoon, Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said the iPhone 4s countdown is their biggest and most successful launch to date.
No less than President Benigno Aquino III became Globe’s first subscriber to receive his iPhone 4s from Globe as his loyalty reward.
“We had a very significant queue in our Greenbelt 4 location. People were very excited to experience the (iPhone) 4S. The first phone was presented to President Aquino. He is an avid iPhone user and he was very excited to receive her loyalty reward from Globe,” Cu said.
Globe subscribers can avail of the iPhone 4s under its postpaid plans bundled with unlimited mobile data package.
“We at Globe understand that the iPhone 4s is a data-intense smartphone. Our subscribers do not have to worry about unusual high charges on their bills,” said Globe’s Senior Adviser for Consumer business Peter Bithos.
Globe Apple iPhone 4S postpaid plans start at P999, or subscribers can build their own bundle from as low as P299. These iPhone 4S plans come with a 20 percent discount on original accessories from Globe.
Meanwhile, Smart’s iPhone unlimited data plans can go from Plan 1500 to Plan 4000. Both networks also offer prepaid packages for the new device.
The new Apple iPhone 4S features a Dual-core A5 chip that promises a faster and more powerful performance. Users will experience quick application launch, fast Safari loading page, and amazing graphics.
The iPhone 4S also has a custom lens and a new 8-megapixel camera and can record high definition video with image stability. It also has the most advance iOS, which features a new notification center, Reminders, and Twitter integration.
The Apple device also features the intelligent personal assistant called Siri, which helps users get things done in the device through its voice recognition software. Siri lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, locate establishments and more.
Users can also easily manage content from their iPhone through the iCloud. It lets users store music, photos, documents and more, wirelessly so it’s always available on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or even the PC.
The new iPhone model is Apple’s most successful mobile device in the company’s history. It is also said as the fastest-selling phone in the market.
In the US alone, telecommunication giant AT&T received a total of 200,000 pre-order requests within the first 12 hours that the company began taking orders of the smartphone.
