Warning issued vs scam using Ona’s name

PRIVATE hospitals were warned against individuals soliciting money using the name of Health Secretary Enrique Ona.
“Certain individuals have been misrepresenting themselves as Secretary Ona in order to solicit from several private hospitals,” the DOH advisory said.

Among the hospitals that notified the Department of Health included the University of Sto. Tomas Hospital in Manila and St. Luke’s Medical Center and the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City.
A caller reportedly asked for P10,000 after money for a team-building exercise in Punta Fuego, Batangas has run out.
The report added that the caller used the Health Secretary’s surname, saying that “Ona” wanted the money to be remitted in a certain cash transfer account while leaving an address that appeared be fictitious and mobile phone numbers 0926-6431303 and 0926-6431304.
“We are advising the public that such fraudulent activities are not authorized by the department or persons connected with the department in anyway,” DOH Health Executive Assistant Dr. Juan Antonio Perez III said.
“The public is reminded to be wary of such extortive activities and to take the necessary precaution before entering into suspect transactions,” furthered Perez.(AMN/Sunnex)
