10 OFWs from Libya arrive in Manila

TEN Filipino workers from Libya have arrived Friday afternoon, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
The second batch of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived in Manila via Etihad Airways at 4:35 p.m. Friday.
Eight of them were fetched by [Undersecretary Rafael] Seguis and embassy officials from a hospital in a town called Esbea, 45 kilometers south of Tripoli, braving the dangerous security situation in the area,
DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said in a statement.
On Sunday, they boarded the MV Azzurra, a vessel chartered by International Organization for Migration-chartered (IOM).
The group was later dropped off in Benghaziโ€”an area controlled by Libyaโ€™s National Transitional Council (NTC)โ€”where they proceeded by land to the Egyptian border of Al Sallum.
Upon arriving in Al Sallum, the Filipinos were met by officials of the Philippine embassy in Cairo who prepared for their return flights through a commercial airline whose cost was shouldered by the Philippine government.
On Thursday, 36 Filipinos arrived from Tripoli as part of the first batch of repatriates from the conflict-torn country.
Seguis is in Libya to convince Filipinos there to avail of the Philippine governmentโ€™s repatriation program.
Some 1,500 Filipinos, mostly nurses in Tripoli and surrounding areas, have refused to return home, since many of them remain committed to their duties.
An estimated 9,000 Filipinos have left Libya in mid-February to March during the height of the anti-government demonstrations.
