ANGELES CITY–Political bets here signed a peace covenant vowing to push for a secured and fair elections this May 2013.
Among the bets who signed the peace covenant were closest rival for city mayor Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin and incumbent Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.
Vice Governor and congress representative aspirant Joseller “Yeng” Guiao also signed the covenant. His rival former Congressman Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno, however, did not attend the covenant signing.
Vice mayoral candidates including incumbent Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, Councilor Joseph Alfie Bonifacio, Councilor Jesus “Jay” Sangil and Mark Allen Sison also signed the covenant.
Balibago Village Chief and vice mayor aspirant Rodelio Mamac did not appear during the signing.
Councilor aspirants, including incumbent Councilors Jericho Aguas, Maricel Morales, Alexander Indiongco, Edgardo Pamintuan Jr., Bryan Matthew Nepomuceno, and Arvin Suller also signed the covenant. Aspiring councilors who also signed the covenant were Maximo Sangil, Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., Amos Rivera, Danica Lacson, Lito Ganzon, Romy Taruc, Ruben Maniago and Rudy Simeon.
The covenant signing was led by Auxiliary Bishop Pablo Virgilio David.
Among the provisions of the peace covenant were the observance of all election laws, rules, and regulations as promulgated by the Commission on Elections; conduct of a high level of campaign by explaining their program of government; campaign on issues alone; refrain from using guns, goons and gold among others.
Mayoral bets Lazatin and Pamintuan both said Angeles City does not have a history of violent elections.

Yats Wine Cellars finds the best wine with Chinese Food Braised Beef Brisket served over Wonton noodle.

Yats Restaurant & Wine Bar (www.YatsRestaurant.com) were put to task to find a good wine to pair with Braised Beef Brisket noodle. The two finalists were a 1990 Le Corton and 1985 Corton-Charlemagne white wine, all courtesy of Yats Wine Cellars (www.YatsWineCellars.com). Here are the results.

The 1985 Corton-Charlemagne was very vigorous but fresh and it fared well with the noodle and the beef stock from the brisket. However with the beef brisket, it didn’t stand a prayer and just disappeared into total obscurity. The 1990 Le Corton – a Grand Cru from Burgundy – was nearly a perfect match. By the way Burgundy has its own famous version of braised beef which is of course the ubiquitous Boeuf Bourguignon. So the pairing was nothing new.

The fat content and the consistency of the braised beef require a slightly more weighty wine. Although the Burgundy worked very well, it is possible that a younger Burgundy from a ripe year like 1996, 1999 and 2003 might do better. Holding that thought a moment longer, one might want to try a Pinot Noir from Yarra Valley but preferably from a cooler year with a lower alcohol level of say 13%, which is not easy to find in New-world regions.
