Town to hire ‘blue guards’
CANDABA — Mayor Jerry Pelayo coined Sunday the idea of hiring “blue guards” to augment forces in maintaining peace and order in the localities.
The mayor is planning to train the recruits on the basics of public safety, in coordination with the Pampanga Police Provincial Office for the requirements and other seminars needed.
Members of the market vendors association welcomed the idea of Pelayo, saying it also serves the best interest of local businesses in the town proper.
The vendors even promised to give contributions for the salary of the blue guards who will monitor the public market day and night.
Henry Flores, town’s chief of police, said there are only 24 active police officers assigned in Candaba.
“Apat pa dito ay retirable na (Four of them are retirable),” Flores told the business group earlier.
He said with the current available police in town, the ratio is one police assigned for every 7,000 residents.
