Shallow LPA, monsoon trough to bring rains over PHL
MANILA — The combined effects of shallow low pressure area (SLPA) hovering near Quezon province and monsoon trough will bring occasional moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao on Wednesday.
Weather forecaster Lenny Ruiz said the SLPA, however, has a slim chance to intensify into a tropical depression.
Ruiz said as of 4 a.m. Wednesday, the weather disturbance was spotted at 280 kilometers East of Infanta, Quezon (14.6°N, 124.6°E).
He said rains this month are usually accompanied by thunder and lightning due to the prevailing southwest monsoon.
Ruiz said rains associated with the southwest monsoon usually occur at night until early morning.
In its advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the rest of Southern Luzon including Metro Manila will experience occasional light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
While Northern and Central Luzon will have partly cloudy skies with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast to Northwest will prevail over these areas. The coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
Moderate winds blowing from the west to southwest will prevail and Manila bay will be moderate.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the West to Southwest with slight to moderate seas.(PNA)
