Support Dennis if he is qualified–Pineda
APALIT, Pampanga – “Assess my son before voting and see if he is qualified.”
Thus said Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda in one of the rare times she had spoken about the candidacy of her son, former Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda.
Gov. Pineda will seek re-election and Dennis is her vice governor running-mate under the Kapanalig at Kambilan Ning Memalen Pampanga (KAMBILAN) party.
In her speech in a recent meeting with barangay leaders of the province’s Fourth District, Pineda said, “if you think Dennis passes your standards, support him.”
“You have the freedom to choose and vote wisely and with your heart,” Pineda stressed in the dialect. She urged her constituents to “listen to all candidates, even our rivals, so that you will know their plans for you.”
Pineda said the decision to field her son “was to have someone who can respond fast and efficiently during disasters and flooding.”
“I am 62 years old now and you don’t want me to lead a rescue in times of flooding, especially late at night,” added the first-term governor.
On Wednesday, in a press conference in the City of San Fernando, Dennis said his family wants to leave a legacy of service and not to set-up a political dynasty in the province as alleged by their rivals.
In a chance upon interview in Sta. Rita town, Pineda said he will help in the programs of livelihood pushed by the governor.
It could be recalled that the governor, Dennis and his sister, Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab, were reportedly responsible for helping thousands avail of high-paying jobs in South Korea and Canada.
For his part, Mabalacat City Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales said “the Pinedas, notably the governor, are a living legend in public service.”
“The Pineda family, especially Gov. Pineda, has been helping people whether they are from the province or not. More importantly, they are sincere and hardworking,” said Morales.
“Records speak for itself,” he added.
The mayor said Dennis, also known as Delta, “is very much qualified to seek the second highest post in the province.”
“As a former mayor of Lubao, Delta introduced progress and innovations in their hometown,” said Morales.
He added that Dennis as mayor was trusted by the members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) after he was chosen as its national treasurer.
Morales also cited the various awards given by various government agencies to the governor for her “exemplary performance.”
