Site for PhilRice satellite campus inspected
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Provincial Government consultant on agricultural concerns met on Wednesday with executives of the PhilRice Center, Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC) and Department of Agriculture (DA) in an ocular inspection on the proposed site for PhilRice satellite campus here.
Roy Imperial, a former DA director and currently the Provincial Government consultant on agriculture, said he was instructed by Governor Lilia Pineda to coordinate with the concerned executives for initial talks on the establishment of the satellite campus at PAC in Magalang town.

Joining Imperial during the ocular inspection were PhilRice executive director Eufemio Raras Jr., PhilRice deputy executive director Eduardo Jimmy Quilang, DA regional director Andrew Villacorta, and PAC president Honorato Soriano.
Imperial added that the management of PAC already identified a site, measuring not less than 10 hectares.
Soriano also promised an additional five hectares and offered the existing building being used by the farmers during trainings.
“Kailangan lamang natin i-upgrade yung farmers’s training center at pwede na nating gamitin laboratory para sa PhilRice satellite campus,” Soriano added.
On the part of the PhilRice Center, Raras stressed with the expected huge investment on facilities, machineries and laboratories including manpower, at least 50 hectares are needed for the establishment of a satellite campus.
It can be noted that Pineda envisioned the establishment of PhilRice Satellite Campus at PAC.
She believes that with a PhilRice campus in Pampanga, local farmers here will not be left behind in terms of agricultural breakthrough involving rice production, farm mechanization among others.
