Sinukwan fest to highlight Kapampangan food, churches
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — More than the colorful street dancing competition, the upcoming Sinukwan Festival is set to highlight native Kapampangan food and the facades of historical churches in Pampanga.
Engr. Marni Castro, chairman of the Sinukwan Festival 2011 executive committee, said the “Pistang Pamangan Kapampangan” will open on December 9 while the exhibit on the facades of historical churches in Pampanga will open on December 10.
The “Pistang Pamangan Kapampangan” will be celebrated along with a variety show sponsored by Globe Telecommunications.
Meanwhile, the exhibits of the Kapampangan churches include those of Minalin, San Fernando, Lubao, San Luis and Angeles City.
Such exhibit will also highlight Pampanga’s religious history.
A photo exhibit of Pampanga Archbishop Paciano Aniceto’s life is also part of the December 9 to 16 Sinukwan Festival.
Other events include drum and lyre competition, dance workshop, musical competition and beauty pageants.
In the coming years, Sinukwan Festival Chairman Castro hopes the festival could be tied up with the celebration of the Pampanga Day.
“I am hoping that one day, we can celebrate the two Kapampangan festivals simultaneously so we can attract more tourists and show them that we, Kapampangans, are unified,” Castro said. (Charlene Cayabyab)
