CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The executive committee and sub-committees of this city’s world renowned Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) are pushing for a grand festival this year.
This early, 15 sub-committees have started preparations for the GLF.
“This year, we may be looking at 16 entries from our 35 barangays. Pabongga ng pabongga ito. We are meeting early to put plans and programs together,” City Administrator Ferdinand Caylao told Sun.Star Pampanga.
The committees, at the same time, gave their nod to the proposed creation of a foundation to oversee finances and logistics of the annual lights and skills festivals unique to Fernandinos.
In the first composition meeting of GLF 2011, executive committee chairman Alfrito “Bong” Mah said the creation of the GLF Foundation will be launched this year, but will be actually activated in 2012.
“It’s been there and we will pursue it. Everything will then be reported to the Bureau of Internal Revenue and Securities and Exchange Commission for transparency. It will not in any way affect committees working on the GLF,” Mah clarified.
Institute of Solidarity for Asia hall of famer associate Sonia Soto added that such moves, defined clearly, would give the festival more room for improvement.
“I was invited in Iloilo City recently and I saw the transformation of the Dinagyang Festival when they used the balanced score card. It would be good for us too,” she said.
For the 2011 GLF, the board of judges will be composed mainly of foreign dignitaries and famous personalities nationwide.
The competition will reel-off December 17, with exhibitions set in various staging points.
