Pampanga top bizman lauds Nanay re-election
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Liberto “Levy” Laus, one of the most prominent and well-respected business leaders in Pampanga, on Friday lauded the re-elected governor and stressed that her treatment of businessmen “is very commendable.”
Laus, chairman emeritus of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham), said Gov. Lilia Pineda supported “well” their 496 member-companies with over 25,000 work force and other business entities.
Laus said that it allowed the steady economic growth of the province in over two years, notably at this capital city of Pampanga where his car dealerships, insurance, media and food businesses are based.
Laus and other officials of their group, including PamCham president Jim Jimenez, were seen in the forefront of efforts to limit the effects of perennial floods in Pampanga and joined Pineda in rescue and relief operations during calamities spawned by floods.
“PamCham is very supportive of the province, especially if our governor is very good,” said Laus. He added that “this early I could say that Pineda is one of the best governors of Pampanga.”
Asked what Pineda could do to improve more the business climate in Pampanga, Laus said “they should improve the branding of Pampanga.”
“When you say Makati City, what comes into your mind? Tall buildings and big businesses, probably,” said Laus, who invited Pineda as Pamcham’s special guest and speaker during the group’s recent induction of new members and officers at the Clark Freeport.
“I don’t know what’s the branding should be for Pampanga. It’s up to the think-tank of Pineda. But it must focus on improving more the businesses,” he added.
Earlier this year, the Ayala Group named Pampanga as one of the four provinces in the country where they want to invest more this year and in the future.
Porac Vice Mayor Dexter David said the Ayala Land is investing on a luxury real estate property in their town near the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway.

Asked about the landslide win of Pineda for his second term, Laus said “she earned it.”
“The governor worked very hard. Her huge win is a manifestation of the people’s love for her,” he added.
Laus said the “generally peaceful elections in Pampanga and the rest of the country is definitely good for businesses in general.”
He cited the challenge of Pineda to PamCham members to help the province in ensuring a peaceful May 13 elections to sustain economic growth.
The Central Luzon police command said on May 15 that the election in Pampanga was generally peaceful compared to the previous poll exercises.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) issued a statement shortly after the May 13 elections, disclosing that there were 81 election-related cases of violence since it started last January 13. It added that the number is low compared to the 176 cases recorded during the duration of the 2010 elections. ●Joey Pavia
