Officials chide ACPO for ‘child abuse’
ANGELES CITY–Two officials from the Councilmen’s League of Angeles City (CLAC) on February 16 slammed personnel from the administration of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, particularly officials from the Angeles City Entertainment Promotion Office (ACEPO), for physically abusing minors who were arrested in Barangay Balibago here last February 4.
“We are more saddened and angered about the physical harassment of minors,” CLAC Vice President Kagawad Roy Ogurida and Vice President for External Affairs Kagawad William David said in a statement. “We find the actions of personnel from ACEPO simply unforgivable.”
“The camp of Mayor Pamintuan feigns the moral high-ground by talking about child exploitation, but they blindly refuse to acknowledge their own personnel’s violation of children’s rights,” said Ogurida.
Earlier, it has been reported that some 10 individuals distributing fliers in Barangay Balibago, at least two of whom were identified as minors, were arrested and physically harassed by personnel from ACEPO.
The apprehended individuals were reportedly even threatened by known Pamintuan ally and ACEPO director Jesse Eres.
According to David, the two identified minors arrested with the group only joined their friends who were asked to distribute the fliers.
On February 4, the apprehended individuals filed illegal arrest and physical injury charges against Eres and other personnel from ACEPO before the Regional Office of the Commission on Human Rights.
The fliers being distributed by the apprehended individuals contained the joint statement released by Ogurida, David, Barangay Margot Kagawad Nenita Ferrer, Barangay Salapungan Kagawad Renato Coronel, and Barangay Santo Domingo Kagawad Oliver Chaneco, regarding the inclusion of the names of their relatives in the list of the Pamintuan administration’s job order employees without the knowledge of the village officials’ relatives. ●Charlene Cayabyab
