Oca needed to save us from floods – Pineda
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Gov. Lilia Pineda said on Wednesday that the mayor of this city is needed as congressional representative of Pampanga’s Third District to drastically cut the effects of perennial flood in the province.
Pineda said she had endorsed the candidacy of three-term Mayor Oscar Rodriguez for congressman “to ensure the protection of Pampanga because he is close to the present administration.”
Pineda cited an incident during the Regional Development Council (RDC) meeting when Rodriguez had been able to convince Public Works Sec. Rogelio Singson to allot at least P700 million for anti-flood projects at heights of floods last year. Rodriguez is the chairman of the RDC and member of the ruling Liberal Party (LP).
“This is more of prioritizing what’s good for Pampanga. We have to act now because there were times in the past when half of the province was flooded at the height of strong rains,” said Pineda in the dialect.
In an earlier interview, Rodriguez said he had to run because Pineda is not an ally of President Aquino.
“I must run so that the president has an ally in Pampanga and funds will come in for our projects in the district,” said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said Aquino will pour in at least P3 billion for infrastructure programs “if I win as congressman.”
He said Aquino “needs someone he trusts in Pampanga that’s why I had to run.”
Rodriguez fell short in categorically stating that his opponent, incumbent Third District Rep. Aurelio Gonzales, was not trusted by Aquino.
He, however, mentioned that the Pampanga official not trusted by the president has a four-lettered name. Gonzales’ nickname is “Dong.”
