Mothers’ Day brings smiles, tears on children’s face
ALLAHABAD: “Meri duniya hai Maa tere aanchal mein,” the song from a Hindi classic film would definitely make one realise, the importance of a mother in shaping one’s life.
Mother’s day is the occasion to make her feel special was the refrain among people from cross sections of society who tried to make the moment big for their mothers. For them mother is one who braves the cold to keep them warm, untouched from the sweltering heat, bites her hunger to feed, wakes up on hearing the faintest cry and stands by even when the whole world has turned hostile. It is the eternal umbrella, which always remains open for her children in times of distress.
Sharing his views with TOI, a government employee, Divya Ganesh said, “For me, my mother holds special significance given the fact that it was under her tutelage that we grew up and became responsible enough to build our career and earn dignity. My father a bank official, most of the time remained posted out of station and it was my mother who had a towering influence on me and my siblings.”
Appreciating her will to take upon the mantles of running the family in her husband’s absence, Divya said, “The biggest quality which made us adore and admire our mother is that she was able to effectively imbibe the role of a working mother and homemaker with admirable ease. At no point did we ever felt like being deprived of any comfort or support, which one feels with the presence of a senior male member like father.”
To make the moment memorable, me and my other three brothers who also dropped in organised a small get together where we sat and ate together to share some nostalgic moments, which brought alive memories of the period when our mother played the dual role of a mother and father alike. Besides gifts in the form of small mementos, were enough to convey the message “Mom we love you and care for you.”
But, there were others like Purshottam Rangani, who thought it to be the ideal occasion to shift back his mother, recuperating after a hip joint operation. In his sixties, Rangani does not feel shy in accepting his fondness for his octogenarian mother, Indra who was instrumental in running the household after the death of her husband some 30 years back.
Talking to TOI, her son said, “Being the eldest, the responsibility of managing the financial affairs of the house fell on my shoulders, which I gracefully accepted. But, it was mother, who always made my junior siblings follow my command in daily life and respect my suggestions in charting their career. Perhaps, this is the reason, why I have been successful in getting my brothers and sisters settled and leading a prosperous life.”
He added that unfortunately his mother met with an accident recently after which she had to be operated. “However it was not possible to shift her to my house situated in a multi storeyed building immediately after the operation. So, I decided to temporarily keep her at my brother’s place situated on the ground floor and waited for the big day when we could welcome her back to our house and make her feel how big is her role in our family even at the twilight of her age.”
On the other side there were also those, who are not so fortunate to enjoy the company of the person for whom the occasion is dedicated, given the fact that they were snatched by the cruel hands of destiny. “For them, it was the moment to recollect fond memories of the period, which they had spent in the company of their mother, who by all counts is considered to be nature’s best gift to man,” said Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, a lawyer who misses his late mother badly on this occasion.
