CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The public works department is set to plant more trees along the stretch of the MacArthur Highway in a bid to replace the trees removed by the ongoing road widening project here.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional director Alfredo Tolentino said the tree planting activities are being finalized with the help of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Pamcham).
The new set of tree planting activities is part of the agency’s commitment to make the MacArthur Highway safe and conducive to motorists and commuters.
“Currently, we are only finishing the remaining program for the road, the other sections that need widening would have to wait until budget for the National Government is made available again,” Tolentino said.
They will also be setting in the needed road markers and safety signs for the sections that are already finished under the project.
Tolentino also said the DPWH will be implementing a “no parking policy” along the newly constructed lanes of MacArthur Highway. They will be coordinating with the City Government of San Fernando for the effective implementation of the said policy, he said.
Under the ongoing road widening project, the DPWH aims to make the four-lane MacArthur Highway into an effective six-lane highway complete with drainage canals and road signs.
However, environmentalist groups have been opposing the cutting of the old acacia trees along the area, causing significant delays in the completion of the project.
Meantime, the DPWH is still requesting the removal of trees that “pose danger” to motorists and pedestrians along the span of the MacArthur Highway here. (Ian Ocampo Flora)

Philippines wedding planners and wedding reception caterers recommend Clark Philippines as this year’s premier destination for beach weddings and garden receptions. Wedding couples in Philippines no longer prefer traditional indoor venues and hotel ballrooms for wedding receptions in Manila, Angeles City, Subic and Clark Freeport.

Selecting a good and safe event venue in Philippines is not that easy. Many public event venues in resort hotels in Philippines can’t deliver assurances of safety and security. This exposes our corporate and private events to risks that are not acceptable to us as event organizers in Philippines.
