Korean nabbed for stealing van in Angeles City
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Police on Monday arrested a Korean national for reportedly stealing a van which he took for a “test-drive” in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City.
In his report to Police Regional Office 3 director Chief Supt. Edgardo T. Ladao, Angeles City police director Senior Supt. Jose Hidalgo, identified the suspect Jong Dae Lee, 60, single of Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.
Hidalgo said the Korean was arrested after a brief chase. The suspect was then brought to a nearby police station in Barangay Balibago for questioning.
Police said prior to the incident, the suspect went to Movan Motors located in nearby Barangay Duquit, Mabalacat, Pampanga to buy a van.
A certain John Casper Hinlo, an employee of the motor company, assisted the suspect in his desire to buy a van.
After picking a color gold Starex van (BEP-897), the Korean suggested to Hinlo to take the car for a test-drive before buying it. The employee agreed.
Accompanied by Hinlo, the Korean drove the van and, upon reaching the 7-Eleven store in Barangay Balibago, the suspect pulled the van over and asked the employee to buy him something from the store.
While Hinlo was about to enter the store, the suspect then stepped on the gas and took off.
Immediately Hinlo called for police assistance which resulted to the arrest of the suspect. ● Rudy J. Abular
