Hometown reception ‘cold’ during Panlilio team sortie
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Gov. Eddie Panlilio and his team received “cold treatment” in his hometown of Minalin during a sortie there before the Holy Week, residents disclosed.
Only a handful of resident welcomed and joined the motorcade of the former priest’s team, they added.
“Halos kayabe dala di Panlilio deng dinatang. Mapilan lamu deng tao Minalin (Most of the people who were there were with Panlilio’s party. Only a few people from Minalin were there),” the residents said.
Residents of Barangay San Nicolas, also known as Poblacion, where Panlilio was born in 1953, said the former governor had apparently lost the support of his townmates as shown by their failure to even warmly greet him and his running-mate, vice governor bet Atty. Maria Amalia Tiglao-Cayanan during their sortie a week before the official campaign starts for the May 2013 elections.
“Makalunus lang akakit. Alang kasigla-sigla reng tao (The mood of the crowd down),” the residents noted.
The Liberal Party (LP) official candidates were joined by Atty. Vivian Dabu, former provincial administrator and congressional candidate in Pampanga’s Second District.
After the motorcade, Panlilio and his team held a talk in a stage near the Sta. Monica Parish Church where they attended Mass early in the morning of the same day.
“Wala na talagang tiwala at kumpiansiya ang mga taga-Pampanga kay Panlilio, kahit dito sa sarili niyang bayan (The people of Pampanga lost their trust and confidence in Panlilio, even at his own hometown),” they said.
A San Nicolas official said, “Who will vote and support Panlilio and his team when they view themselves as higher kinds of human beings and leaders who are perfect?”
“There is no such thing. What we need is a true, sincere and performing government like the one we have today in Pampanga,” he added.
It could be recalled that Gov. Lilia Pineda mangled Panlilio in the 2010 elections, winning by more than 260,000 votes.
Panlilio lost in Minalin and the 17 towns of Pampanga and the City of San Fernando. He narrowly won against Pineda in one small town–Sto. Tomas.
“The way I see it, Pineda will win via landslide. The question now is how big will the lead be and how deep the wound will be,” said a former town official. ●Marna D. Del Rosario
