Guv calls for clean-up of coastal village
MASANTOL — Governor Lilia Pineda recently enjoined officials of various government agencies to conduct a clean-up drive in the coastal barangay of Paguiaba, Masantol town.
Officials of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office led by Art Punzalan, policemen led by town’s police chief Diosdado Nolasco, and soldiers from the Philippine Army led by Colonel Gregorio Pio Catapang, commander of the 703rd Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Barangay Paguiaba chairman Alex Bernarte participated in the clean-up of the riverbanks where informal settlers had built their houses.
The governor also enjoined the residents to be active participants in cleaning their community and make everyday a clean-up day, instead of relying on government officials to do this for them.
“I am hoping that every day, you would clean your surroundings, and you will not let garbage be thrown anywhere and you will apply waste segregation at source or in your households,” Pineda said.
She also emphasized to the residents that this is for their own well-being.
She also directed Bernarte to seriously enforce solid waste management practices in their barangay, “to prevent illnesses, keep a clean and healthy community.”
Chairman Bernarte promised the governor that they will do their best to keep their village clean despite of frequent high tide that brings up the level of water coupled with waste.
The provincial chief executive has solid waste management among her many priorities for Pampanga towards making it a healthy and progressive province.
She has been visiting communities and touching lives with all sectors to do their part in preserving the cleanliness of the environment and the safety of the people.
Pineda urged the officials and the residents of this coastal barangay to do their part in this campaign “for their own good,” especially since coastal areas are particularly prone to environmental problems.
