DOH lauded for augmenting district hospital expansion fund
FLORIDABLANCA, Pampanga – The Department of Health announced allocating P10 million in funds for the further improvement of the Romana Pangan District Hospital (RPDH) here.
Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda lauded Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, director of the Center for Health and Development-Central Luzon (DOH-CHD3), for the “good news” revealed during the inauguration of new facilities in RPDH.
Said allocation is from of the national government’s Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP), one of President Benigno Aquino’s banner programs, aiming to improve health care facilities throughout the country; thereby, providing accessible yet quality health care services for the underprivileged Filipinos.
Gorgolon disclosed that Pampanga received P730 million in funding, used for the enhancement of various government health facilities for the last three years.
It was also learned that the Capitol received P156 million for the improvement of healthcare facilities throughout the province in 2009; P146-million worth of projects in 2010; and P65 million in 2011, wherein 26 facilities were constructed and 14 of which were given medical equipment.
Further, DOH has allotted at least P33 million in the improvement of public hospitals and service providers in 2012, particularly for the Jose S. Lapid Memorial Hospital (formerly Porac District Hospital) and Mayor Domingo B. Flores Memorial Hospital (formerly Macabebe District Hospital).
The health department and the provincial government has also prioritized the establishment of birthing stations in different municipalities in order to provide Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) leading to the reduction of maternal death incidents.
Gorgolon said the total number of facilities given by DOH under the Universal Health Program has reached to 56, while 59 health care providers received medical equipment since 2009.
NEW FACILITIES
Meanwhile, the district hospital’s new amenities include the eight-bed pediatric ward, three-bed cultural minority ward, pulmonary ward, out-patient department (OPD) waiting area, hospital cafeteria, and waste holding area amounting to P8,424,218–all funded by the provincial government.
Last year, the Capitol also opened its operating room complex and OB ward worth P4.9 million.
With this, Gorgolon expressed satisfaction over the governor’s support in the improvement of health care services in the province.
“We are having a hard time figuring out which hospital to rehabilitate next, since the governor already led the reconstruction of all health facilities in Pampanga ever since 2009,” Gorgolon said.
Mayor Eduardo Guerrero also expressed his gratitude for the support shown by leaders from the provincial and national government.
