ANGELES CITY — Some 616 barangay daycare workers here will soon receive an additional allowance meant to improve their quality of life.
Governor Lilia Pineda, during Wednesday’s daycare workers general assembly at SM City Clark, announced the release of P1,000 monthly allowances in response to the clamor of daycare workers for more reasonable assistance from the government.

“I know that most of you work and subsist on meager allowances. We hope that this allowance will greatly help and augment the allowance given to you by the municipality where you work in,” Pineda said.
Pineda was joined on stage by board members who recently approved on a P500 monthly allowance for the daycare workers. However, Pineda raised it to P1,000 after the prodding of Candaba Mayor and Pampanga Mayor’s League president Jerry Pelayo.
The allowance will be given starting this July and until December. This came as most daycare workers in Pampanga depend on the allowances allocated by their respective mayors. However, there are differences in the allowances given by different municipalities, causing disappointment among the workers.
“Some of us receive a P500 monthly allowance only, with no PhilHealth benefit. We are very happy that Governor Pineda has called that attention of mayors on our condition. The allowance would be a big help,” a daycare worker, who refused to be named, said.
Pineda said daycare workers should also be given PhilHealth coverage to give them better social security in the performance of their duties.
Pineda also called on the PML to discuss the possibility of stratifying allowances to be given to the daycare workers. She said there is a need to come with a system of allocating allowances for the daycare workers.
Daycare workers in the province tend to 27,000 daycare pupils in all towns of the province.
