Cybersex den found in Magalang
MAGALANG, Pampanga – Government agents uncovered a well-entrenched cybersex operation during a raid at a house being rented by a Korean here.
The house, according to authorities, is reportedly owned by this town’s vice mayor Norman Lacson.
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) sources said several women believed to be cyber “models” were rescued, while computer sets, accessories and gadgets were seized from the den situated at Punta Verde Residence, a residential community located at the boundary of Magalang town and Angeles City.
The source, an official of the NBI in Manila, did not mention the name of the Korean but said the house was brokered for rent by an “ad agency”.
The Korean, sources said, has been renting the house for about four to six months.
“Lacson has nothing to do with the cybersex operations,” they said.
“The house occupants were suspiciously observed in the neighborhood,” said the source.
A resident in the community reportedly alerted the NBI – Technical and Intelligence Division, the unit tasked to conduct cybersex operations and similar computer fraud crimes, about the suspicious activities in the house.
NBI-Central Luzon Regional Office Director Atty. Jose Justo Yap said NBI operatives from TID coordinated with his office Tuesday for cybercrime operations in Magalang area. He said the raiding team left Pampanga but did not inform him on the result of the operations.
Law enforcement agencies say cybersex, or sexually explicit material over the internet, is a growing industry in many parts of the world, including in the Philippines, where there is perceived to be a low risk of arrest and high returns.
Officials estimate that thousands could be working in the small apartments that are the usual locations of these so-called cybersex dens.
All internet sex is classed as pornography and therefore illegal in the Philippines, but what most concerns the authorities is the number of girls who are trafficked into these dens–many of whom are well under 18, the legal age of consent.
