Candaba heeds call to solve garbage woes
CANDABA, Pampanga–Neophyte Mayor Rene Maglanque on Thursday announced that the local government unit here has allocated funds for the purchase of a lot for the construction of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to address the growing problem on solid waste.
This is in line with Governor Lilia G. Pineda’s call to solve the garbage problem in the province by means of segregation thru the use of MRFs.
Maglanque, in an interview, vowed to expedite the construction of the municipal MRF.
The mayor said the Sangguniang Bayan members have given him a free hand in the purchase of the lot.
Maglanque said he will urge his constituents to practice waste segregation to avoid flooding in their town, which is one of those prone to flooding during heavy downpour.
Last Tuesday, Pineda, in her meeting with Pampanga mayors, renewed efforts and commitment in solving the garbage problem in the province.
Pineda urged the mayors for the construction of MRFs for each municipality, as she pushed for waste segregation as highlighted in the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
Pineda also offered P3 million to every LGU who will comply with the construction of MRFs and waste segregation.
The governor also appealed to Kapampangans to be more responsible when disposing of waste.
Records showed that the province produces between 800 to 900 metric tons of garbage per day.
