AC gov’t poised to maintain top performing LGU status
ANGELES CITY–The city government here is poised to maintain its Top 10 status among highly urbanized cities (HUC) nationwide as it qualifies for another seal of good housekeeping award this year from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
This development was announced by City Councilor Edgardo “Edu” Pamintuan Jr., chairman of the education and environment committees of the Sangguniang Panglungsod.
“We just learned from the DILG that based on initial evaluation, the Angeles City Government is again qualified for the Top 10 HUCs and the seal of good housekeeping award for the 3rd straight year,” Pamintuan Jr. said.
According to the DILG, the city has consistently improved its capacity to render basic services and promote good governance to its constituents.
“This is about good governance, transparency, accountability and finance management. Our bidding process is in place and very transparent. All required local government boards and councils have been created and are functioning,” Pamintuan Jr. explained.
He said that organizational management is working and vital ordinances have been enacted and that the local development council is active unlike during the previous administrations.
“We now have a system of feedback gathering and reporting. Measures relative to the anti-red tape act have been organized,” he added.
Last year, Angeles City placed 6th nationwide in the Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS) among HUC’s and was awarded with the DILG’s seal of good housekeeping for the 2nd straight year.
The city government also won the very prestigious and highly coveted Gawad Pamana ng Lahi award. “We have upped the level of local governance. We now have a world class mayor and soon we are now developing Angeles into a world class city,” the younger Pamintuan said.
He added that the awards and recognitions Angeles City reaps is the result of effective, efficient and competent, as well as hands-on management of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and the entire Agyu Tamu administration.
According to Mayor Pamintuan, while awards and citations, “make the city proud and boost our bragging rights,” the local government shouldn’t be complacent and continue to improve its stand against other competing local government units.
“Whether there is an award or reward at stake, we should still strive to deliver the best services to our people,” the mayor said.
At the same time, he lauded the efforts of the DILG for the staunch implementation of the LGPMS, adding that it is an effective tool to assess the LGUs strengths and capitalize on their gaps and weaknesses. ●Charlene Cayabyab
