STO. TOMAS — Third district Board Member Ricardo Yabut on Wednesday said the Provincial Board is considering the relocation of the Philippine Science High School-Central Luzon Campus (PSHS-CLC) from the Clark Polytechnic Compound inside the Clark Freeport to this town to give Kapampangan youths more access to quality education.

Yabut told Sun.Star Pampanga that the move came after PSHS-CLC Campus director Lilia Habacon wrote Gov. Lilia Pineda of the need to relocate the campus near major Pampanga towns to make it more accessible.

PSHS-CLC is a newly established unit of the Philippine Science High School System under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). The school was established in 2009 as a regional campus by virtue of RA 8496 as amended by RA 9036.

According to Yabut, the school is mandated to administer scholarships to secondary students with high aptitude in Science and Math.

Yabut said the PSHS would like to explore the possibility of Pampanga as a host for the Central Luzon campus. As required, Pampanga must at least provide five hectares of land for the use of the campus.

“This is a possibility that the board and even the Gov. Pineda is entertaining with utmost interest as we would be having easy accesses to one of the best academic institutions in the country,” Yabut said.

Yabut added the relocation of the campus would bring in other students from Central Luzon, resulting into movement and commercial activity. He said the presence of another academic institution near the City of San Fernando would bolster the province’s claim as an education hub in the next six years.

Yabut said the Provincial Government is studying the relocation of the campus in a government-owned land in Sto. Tomas.

Yabut said Provincial Board is set to discuss the matter thoroughly in the next regular session after the Holy Week.
