CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be holding a dry run of the 1,647 Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines in polling precincts all over the province today, after the machines arrived in Pampanga over the weekend.

The dry run, according to Atty. Fernando Cot-om, Comelec provincial election officer, will be held for fine tuning and familiarization of PCOs machines.

“The PCOS machines have been transported direct to polling places and will remain there until election day,” Cot-om said.

The police held send-off ceremonies for military troops and police personnel who were deployed and tasked to secure some 501 polling places in Pampanga six days ahead of the elections day to ensure peace and order in polling places.
From the Air 21 warehouse, Cot-om said the PCOS machines were transported Saturday and Sunday simultaneously and will be placed under the custody of police and military troops guarding the polling precincts.

Some 1,035 policemen and military troops have been fielded to secure voting places in the entire province, said Supt. Liza Guzman, spokesperson of the Pampanga Provincial Police Office.

Initially, she said, a total of 600 security forces, including augmentation troops from the Air Force and Army, have been deployed ahead to secure PCOS machines which were delivered last Saturday and Sunday.

Guzman said administrative personnel were also mobilized to form part of the elections security details especially in Pampanga’s five towns considered as hot spots due to intense political rivalry–Arayat, San Simon, Mexico, Sto. Tomas and Bacolor. ● Marna Dagumboy-del Rosario
