GUAGUA — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here said Friday their Oplan Kandado Program will not close tiangge stalls here, as these comply with the monitoring procedures set by the revenue office.

BIR Regional Director Romulo Aguila Jr. said during an inspection of stalls here that the BIR has established monitoring procedures on small stalls and assured that tiangge stalls and organizers here have been complying with the tax requirements of the BIR.

“Currently, there is no need to close these small shops. But we have been continuing the monitoring and information drive to make others comply with the tax requirements, Aguila said.

Aguila added that the BIR will close stalls and even big establishments that have not been declaring the right amount of sales and taxes under its Oplan Kandado Program.

Oplan Kandado covers all establishments not complying with the essential requirements such as issuance of receipts, filing of returns, declaration of taxable transactions, taxpayer registration and the paying of the correct amount of taxes.

It also requires the BIR personnel to conduct covert, overt, and short duration surveillances. Establishments found violating tax rules are then closed down upon failure to settle the necessary obligations.

For this year, the BIR in this town shut down Friday the Maligaya Variety Store in Barangay Maligaya in Tarlac province. Aguila said that the closure of the said store is BIR’s first salvo for 2011. The store was found to have some 65.15 percent under declaration of its recent sales.

The BIR is also expected to implement closure of some establishments in Bataan and Pampanga’s second district in the coming weeks.

Aguila assured that businesses that follow the country’s tax laws need not fear the Oplan Kandado program as it only targets tax delinquent establishments.
