LUBAO, Pampanga – Gov. Lilia Pineda has urged Aetas in two Pampanga towns to help the province in pushing for agriculture and tourism in their areas benefitting some 12,000 members of the indigenous tribes.

In a meeting here on Friday, Pineda asked tribal leaders and village chiefs to cooperate in improving tourism destinations such as the Miyamit and Darabulbul Falls in Porac and Nabuclod, a 5,000-hectare area in Floridablanca perched 1,200 feet above sea level and dubbed as “paradise in the sky.”

Pineda also urged some 100 Aetas who attended the meeting to “show us the other unknown beautiful sites in your places.”

Sapang Uwak Barangay Captain Solis Palo told Pineda that his village has a falls yet to be seen by many outsiders.
“It’s a nice falls. What’s good about it is that we get fresh and clean drinking water just beside it,” said Palo in the dialect.

Pineda asked Palo to bring her and other provincial Capitol officials at the falls in Sapang Mawacat in a bid to promote it.

Second District Board Members Salvador Dimson Jr. and Olga Frances “Fritzie” David-Dizon expressed support to the plan of the first-term governor to develop the areas of the Aetas in the two towns with combined land area of 49,000 hectares. Porac is the biggest town in Pampanga in terms of land area.

The two incumbent board members were joined by Guagua Councilor Tonton Torres and former Sta. Rita Mayor Arthur Salalila in the meeting.

Dimson said the provincial board led by Vice Gov. Joseller “Yeng” Guiao earlier passed an ordinance allowing Pineda to use at least P9 million for the development of Nabuclod.

“The governor is concern about the welfare of the long neglected Aetas. She wants them to be assisted well and at the same time taught to be self-reliant and productive,” said Dimson.

He added that agri-tourism is being pushed by Pineda at Nabuclod.
“The Aetas will primarily benefit from the plans and projects of the governor,” he added.

Elizabeth Estiller-Baybayan, acting provincial social welfare and development officer, disclosed that there are 1,678 Aeta families or 8,390 individuals in Porac, while there are 782 Aeta families or 3,641 individuals in Floridablanca.

The villages in Porac where most Aetas live are Sapang Uwak, Kamais, Planas, Villa Maria at Inararo and Diaz.
In Floridablanca, the Aeta-dominated villages are Mawacat and Nabuclod.

In Mabalacat City, there are at least 1,023 Aeta families or 5,115 individuals, according to Baybayan.
