BACOLOR, Pampanga–Mayor Jomar Hizon led the ceremonial lightning of the streetlights amounting to P2 million donated by the Hizon clan in this town’s commercial center.

Fifty colorful lampposts were constructed around the vicinity starting from the public market to the San Guillermo Church that guided the night travellers and motorists.

Mayor Hizon said this development will attract more tourists and residents to appreciate the marvels of the town even at night.

“Bacolor is tagged as the Athens of the Philippines and center of Pampanga’s culture and literature where most Kapampangan poets and writers were born. As Bacoloreños we must find ways to preserve what we have while embracing modernization that will enhance the beauty of our heritage,” Hizon explained.
The mayor stated that their family, especially Lolita Hizon, is an advocate of Kapampangan culture while her sister Angie Hizon is the president of OK Musica Balen that develops Kapampangan talents.

“It is in the blood of the Hizons to help in the promotion and discovery of the potentials of the province,” said Hizon.
Mayor Hizon’s running mate this May 2013 election is his mother, Lolita, who eyes the vice mayor’s position.

Despite their candidacy, Hizon clarified that the donation has nothing to do with their political move since their family has doing various donations “since time immemorial.”

“Even before any Hizon entered the political arena, our family has given donations not only in this town,” he stated.

According to Mayor Jomar their clan’s donations range from farm equipment, ambulance, infrastructure, school buildings and animal distribution such as water buffalo.

“Dakal na at marakal pa ing ibie ning kekaming pamilya (Much were given and expect more from our family),” he said in the vernacular. ●Jenna Lumbang
