CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Education (DepEd) has scheduled a one-day early registration for incoming students of public schools as a way to address education needs.

The early registration was set on January 29 to be conducted simultaneously in all regions including Central Luzon.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the pre-registration will give the department enough information to determine interventions needed to ensure that all school-aged children are in school, and to prevent students from dropping out of school.

Qualifications

Based on Department Order Number 2, the early registration targets all 5-year-olds to be enrolled in kindergarten and all 6-year-olds in Grade 1.

Early registration is also mandated in public secondary schools.

Children who were born on October 31, 2006 or earlier shall be eligible for early enrolment in kindergarten while those who were born on October 31, 2005 or earlier, with or without kindergarten experience, shall be eligible for early enrolment in Grade 1.

The birth certificate of the child which will serve as proof of age can be submitted in June or within the school year.

Meanwhile, students who are not presently enrolled in Grade 6 but have completed the grade level and who want to be enrolled in first year high school must present their Grade 6 card to the teacher-in-charge of registration in high schools.

If the report card is not available, a signed certification by the parent or guardian that indeed the enrollee has completed Grade 6 could be presented.

Prospective first year students who have finished Grade 6 in previous years and those who dropped out are also encouraged to enroll.

Moreover, Armin said the DepEd will work closely with local government units, barangay officials, parents, civic organizations, the business sector and other education stakeholders to make the necessary reparations and address potential needs when classes open in June.

“We enjoin all parents and guardians to take advantage of this one-day early registration to avoid the enrolment rush in June and help provide DepEd with enough information to promptly address resource gaps that may arise,” Luistro said.
