CLARK FREEPORT — The Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) will host a seminar on European Union (EU) general system preference on May 30 at the Holiday Inn here.
The seminar, dubbed “Taking Advantage of the Benefits from the Utilization of the Revised European Union General System of Preference (EU-GSP),” is presented though the Universal Access to Competitiveness and Trade (U-ACT), with the assistance of the European Union Trade Related Technical Assistance II (EU-TRTA II) Project.

According to PamCham president Jimmy Jimenez, the EU-GSP is the system of preferential trading arrangements through which the EU extends preferential access to its markets to developing countries. It grants products imported from GSP-beneficiary countries either duty free access or tariff reduction.
There are currently around 175 countries granted with said preferential trading arrangements, including 47 least developed countries, and all Asean countries, except Singapore and Brunei.
The EU Commission adopted Regulation 1063/2010 last November 2010 which adopted the revised EU GSP and has been in effect since January 1, 2011.
A total of about 7,200 products are covered under the new EU-GSP, mostly agriculture and fishery products, including RP exports such as pineapples, bananas, coffee, coconut, essential oils, articles of apparel and clothing accessories, textile fibers, ceramic products, glass and glassware, furniture, musical instruments, toys and games, electrical machinery and parts, and motor vehicles.
The lead facilitator for the seminar will be Atty. Stefan Friedrich Moser, an independent consultant who has more than 14 years of experience in international trade negotiations, World Trade Organization and World Customs Organization in the framework of bilateral free trade negotiations with the European Union and free trade negotiations of European Free Trade Association.
“We encourage entrepreneurs and business leaders to attend, learn more, receive practical tips and intelligent advice from the lecturer and share your experiences with fellow participants to fully maximize the benefits offered by the revised EU-GSP regime,” Jimenez said.
