CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Local candidates have started wooing their constituents over the weekend, either with motorcades, proclamation rallies or house-to-house sorties in different areas in the province.

The Magsilbi Team of the City of San Fernando spearheaded by Third District congressional candidate Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and mayoral candidate Edwin Santiago opened Sunday its campaign salvo with a 1,800-vehicle motorcade that snaked through the city’s 35 barangays and main thoroughfares.

Thousands of supporters aboard cars, vans, pick-up trucks, motorcycles and even private buses were cheered by hundreds of Fernandinos lined up on streets as the floats and showboats of Rodriguez, Santiago and councilor wannabes Allan Patio, Bernie Castro, Doy Sason, Jack Calimlim, Nelson Lingat, Dein Henson, Lito Ocampo, Noel Tulabut and Harvey Quiwa passed by, blaring their campaign jingles.

Taking off from the convergence point at Villa Del Sol to join the motorcade were Kambilan’s third district Board Member aspirants Rosve Henson, Dinan Labung, and Mexico Mayor Teddy Tumang.

“It is like no other, this opening salvo. It wasn’t even this big in 2010. It is symbolic of Easter as the city and the Third District of Pampanga is breathed with new life and hope,” said City Administrator Ferdinand Caylao, as he observed the kilometers-long motorcade pass by Heroes Hall.

Rodriguez noted it was a “synergy of political forces coming together to bring change and reforms in the political and governance landscapes.”

“Apparently, tumutulong lahat sa atin pati ibang partido sa ating adhikain. This is pure synergy of political forces coming together for a better San Fernando and new governance for the Third District. Ang ganito ay hindi matutumbasan ng pera,” he told Sun.Star Pampanga.

For his part, Santiago opined that it was “relationships at work.”

“I believe it’s a matter of relationships at work. Relationships that we forged while serving the people, which they are giving back to us as a way of support. It’s good. Very good,” he quipped.

He added that his “Tsinelas ng EdSa: Ing kaparis ning sinelas ku atiu kekayu,” where one of the pair is worn by the people for him to govern effectively, is a manifestation of the desire for continuity of what the Rodriguez administration started.

“The acceptance of our simple platform is a reflection of the people’s will. It’s like what the most recent independent survey showed, that I am leading 57-29 versus my opponent. It is all because of the healthy relationships we have with Fernandinos,” said Santiago.
