CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced on Wednesday the 2012 Gawad Saka winners in Central Luzon.
The awardees are: Eulogio Cabiles of San Manuel, Tarlac as Outstanding Corn Farmer; Gener Singian of Guagua, Pampanga as Outstanding Adopting Hybrid Rice Farmer; Bernardino Nunez of San Rafael, Bulacan as Outstanding Farm Family; Palanas Multipurpose Cooperative of San Ildelfonso, Bulacan as Outstanding Small Farmer/Fisherfolk Organization; Guagua Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) as Outstanding MAFC; Rural Improvement Club (RIC) of Magsaysay, Castillejos, Zambales as Outstanding RIC; Las Piñas Barangay Council of Peñarada, Nueva Ecija as Outstanding Local Government Unit-managed Barangay Food Terminal; Valiant Multipurpose Cooperative of Bongabon, Nueva Ecija as Outstanding Cooperative-managed Barangay Food Terminal; Emily Soriano of Tarlac City as Outstanding Agricultural Scientist; Jeffrey Lim of Gerona, Tarlac as Outstanding Small Animal Raiser; Gil Navarro of Masantol, Pampanga as Outstanding Agricultural Entrepreneur; Alfredo Canoy of Orion, Bataan as Outstanding High Value Crops Farmer; Ravenal Quizon of San Ildelfonso, Bulacan as Outstanding Large Animal Raiser; and Lilia Ona-Alvindia of Quezon, Nueva Ecija as Outstanding Hybrid Rice Farmer.
Honorees were conferred with their respective merits in a ceremony to held at Heroes Hall Mini-Convention Center in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga last Friday.
DA-Regional Field Unit 3 (RFU 3) information officer Jun Espiritu said “the Gawad Saka is given to farmers, fisherfolks, livestock raisers and farmers’ and fisherfolks’ groups and organizations in recognition of their achievements as well as contributions to nation-building. Last year’s performance served as the basis in determining the winners.”
Espiritu explained “the contest started at the municipal level where model farmers, fisherfolks, livestock raisers and farmers’ and fisherfolks’ groups and organizations were endorsed by their respective mayors to the provincial level competition.”
Profiles of the provincial winners were then submitted to DA-RFU 3 for review and validation.
The regional honorees, who are automatically Central Luzon’s bets to the national Gawad Saka, were picked by a selection committee composed of various program coordinators and division chiefs of DA-RFU 3 along with representatives from the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council.
Individual winners each received P20,000 plus plaque of recognition while group victors each took home P30,000 plus plaque.
