LUBAO, Pampanga – Former Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda and his wife, Sta. Rita Mayor Yolanda Pineda, have deep respect and admiration for gays, helping organize a group called “Rosas” in 2007.
Dennis, in his speech on Tuesday at the Lubao Gym, said the Rosas was “primarily a creation and concept of my wife.” Its founding members are from Sta. Rita, one of the smallest towns in Pampanga known for its production of “duman.”
Dennis said his wife, the two-term Sta. Rita mayor, had “wanted them to be active and productive members of the community.”
Larry Tolentino, president of Rosas, disclosed that they have almost 300 members coming other towns of the district: Porac, Floridablanca, Sasmuan, Guagua and Lubao.
“We started six years ago in Sta. Rita. Now, we are planning to have more members from other districts,” said Tolentino in the dialect.
“It is best,” he added when asked to comment about the program organized for them by Gov. Lilia Pineda on Tuesday.
In an interview with Rosas members, they said Dennis, also known as Delta, “has been helping us since the group started.”
“More importantly, Delta and Mayor Yolly Pineda show respect and friendship to us,” they added.
In his speech, Dennis urged the Rosas to help the provincial government and police “maintain peace and order and stop crimes.”
“You must give information about illegal activities in your area,” said Dennis, who is running for vice governor.
