Palace earmarks P3-B for Pampanga rivers dredging

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–President Benigno Aquino III on Friday announced that the national government has allotted some P2.956 billion for the dredging of waterways in the province.
In his speech during the campaign sortie of Team PNoy in this city, the President said the national government, thru the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has allotted funds for the dredging of at least 100 waterways to prevent massive flooding, especially in the low-lying areas in the province.
Aquino said, aside from the P5 billion budget for the rehabilitation of the San Fernando-Sto. Tomas-Minalin taildike which is ongoing, the DPWH will also dredge 100 waterways for the safety of the Kapampangans.
The P5-billion budget for the breached tail dike will include the rehabilitation of Pampanga Delta Phase 1 and slope protection for the safety of the province and Bulacan.
The President, who spoke in front of a crowd of at least a thousand, reiterated the need to safeguard every Kapampangan during flooding.
During the event, close to a thousand supporters dressed in yellow shirts attended the campaign sortie of Team PNoy attended by senatoriables Jamby Madrigal, Riza Hontiveros, Allan Peter Cayetano, Koko Pimentel and representatives of other candidates.
Liberal Party candidates in the nine towns of Arayat, Candaba, Guagua, Magalang, Masantol, Mexico, Minalin, San Luis, San Simon; and two cities, San Fernando and Mabalacat, also attended the campaign rally here.
Aquino, however, cut-short his visit in Pampanga and had to run back to Malacañang following reports of a gunfight between the Malaysian forces and the group of Sultan Jamalul Kiram in Sabah. ●Marna Dagumboy-del Rosario

Pampanga quarry collection hits P701-M

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–The provincial government has now collected a total of P700,900,000 in quarry revenue, moving closer to its target collection of P770 million by June this year.
The capitol made this announcement last Friday, after February collections have been pegged at P24,902,500.
According to Provincial Environment and Natural Resources head Engr. Art Punsalan, the Kapampangan A Lulugud At Matapat or Kalam is working hard to achieve its projected target before the terms of Governor Lilia G. Pineda and Vice Governor Joseller “Yeng” end this June.
“We are very optimistic we will achieve the target or even go beyond it, based on increased demand. With four months to go, hopefully, we will achieve another milestone when the terms of Governor Pineda and Vice Governor Yeng Guiao end June this year,” he said.
Punsalan said the support of Pineda’s administration has brought the quarry industry to its all-time peak due to parallel efficiency in operations.
With this, Guiao said the provincial government is working for the computerization of the quarry operations and to institutionalize it so that the real trend and figures will not be altered whoever takes over at the capitol.
Guiao added that by computerizing and institutionalizing the quarry system, the provincial government would maximize its potential in the delivery of basic services to Kapampangans.
Today, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is conducting a committee hearing attended by all concerned stakeholders on the computerization of quarry system. ●Marna Dagumboy-Del Rosario
