HAU to honor former La Salle administrator

ANGELES CITY–The University of Holy Angel (HAU) will confer the Order of St. Michael the Archangel for outstanding contribution to lay catholic education to Chancellor Emeritus of the De La Salle University (DLSU) Dr. Carmelita Quebengco on March 8.
The order of St. Michael the Archangel is given annually to laypersons who have played a significant role in Catholic evangelization through education. It was instituted by the HAU two years ago.
HAU was founded by a lay person Juan Nepomuceno, whose 121th birth anniversary will be celebrated on March 8.
Quebengco who served the DLSU System for over 30 years until her retirement in 2007, helped to raise the bar academic excellence through reforms and innovations, specifically in curriculum development, research program, international accreditation, scholarships and grants, performance in board examinations and admissions.
For her lifelong commitment to the Lasallian Mission, Quebengco recently became an affiliate of the De la Salle Brothers of the Philippine District–the highest and rarest honor bestowed by the Brothers through which she is “incorporated intimately” into the Society of Brothers. She now shares with the Brothers in all the prayers and good works with her name inscribed in the archives at Casa Generaize, the Brothers’ Mother House in Rome.

CLARK FREEPORT—A shopping mall here will hold a special screening of the award-winning film, “Thy Womb (Sa Kanyang Sinapupunan),” directed by renowned Kapampangan director Brilliante Mendoza.
SM City Clark will show the film on Friday with screening times 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Mendoza is expected to attend the special screening.
“Thy Womb” is starred by veteran actress Nora Aunor. It tells the story of opposing natures of women (sterility versus fertility) to reflect the prevailing condition in Tawi-tawi.
In the movie, Mendoza also showed the rich culture of the Badjaos, an indigenous ethnic group known to be living a seaborne lifestyle as they use small wooden sailing vessels (such as the perahu and vinta) in their daily lives.
