Pampanga crime rate dips by 40% last year
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Senior Supt. R’win Pagkalinawan, Pampanga provincial police director, disclosed that the crime rate in the province decreased by 40 percent in 2012 compared to the recorded crimes in 2011.
In a report to Gov. Lilia Pineda during the dialogue with the homeowners association of this city, Pagkalinawan noted that total crime of 4,042 in 2011 has been trimmed down to only 2,542 in 2012.
In 2011, an average of 500-600 crimes had been committed per month. Last year, however, the police only recorded a monthly average crime rate of only 200 to 250. The lowest monthly crime record last year was in December at only 160 crimes.
“It is notable in Pampanga that, despite the increase in population, the crime rate slumps and most of these were petty offenses like theft,” said Pagkalinawan.
The police director said this accomplishment is due to the continuous and active Police Integrated Patrol System and Comparative Statistics on crime rate areas that served as basis for their strategies to fight criminality.
He also attributed the decrease in crime rate with the existing cooperation between PNP, provincial government, local government units and barangay officials.
“Gov. Pineda is very supportive with the needs of PNP in order to execute peace and order plans effectively. She has motivated village tanods to be force multipliers in crime prevention,” he said.
With these remarkable accomplishment, Pagkalinawan clarified that Pampanga is in the watch list order of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) this coming election because of the 2010 election-related violence and not an indication of what were already achieved in peace and order management under the Pineda Administration. ●JENNA LUMBANG
