Don’t confuse the charming town of Chablis, France, with the weak wine sold by that name. The wines produced here are top notch.

Chablis, France, is an amazing place. It is small in size, but large in quality of its wines. These are dry white wines, not to be confused with the sweet wines sold in jugs in boxes.

There is a strict classification of wine in Chablis. Here the Chardonnay grape reigns supreme. When grown in Chablis’ challenging soil and severe climate, it produces a steeely, dry wine that is perfect with shellfish.

Forgeot Pere at Fits Petit Chablis
The steely minerals come through in this wine. It is a good example of what Chablis should be, and at a reasonable price. You find fresh fruit on the nose and the tongue.

Domaine Grand Roche Chablis
Another must buy Chablis at a reasonable price. This wine is light and bright, featuring citrusy fruit and floral aromas. You’ll find the minerals paired well with a spicy flavors. Serve with your favorite shrimp salad.

If you travel to the Burgundy region don’t overlook Chablis the town. Many of the houses date back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The church is covered in horseshoes! These have been left as gifts in honor of St. Martin, the patron of equestrians and horses.
