Mayor: Toxic waste also came from Angeles

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO โ€” Mayor Oscar Rodriguez said industrial wastes from some of the cityโ€™s establishments contributed to the toxic waste build-up in Macabebe town, adding that a bigger portion came from Angeles City.

Rodriguez said only a small portion of toxic waste flow from this cityโ€™s river to the said affected town.

Macabebe Mayor Annette Balgan earlier complained that establishments based in San Fernando City like La Tondeรฑa, San Miguel and Pasudeco release industrial wastes that stock up in their townโ€™s river.

Balgan said she had sent a letter to Rodriguez, seeking to inform him about the problem and to prevent establishments under his jurisdiction from further dumping industrial wastes into the river.

She also said the City Government officials can regulate the said companies because permits and other licenses come from them.

Balgan added the toxic waste build up has affected the livelihood of her constituents particularly fishermen.

Rodriguez, however, said he has not yet read the letter from Balgan.

โ€œWeโ€™re trying our best to monitor these establishments and we require them to put-up water waste treatment facilities,โ€ Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said the City Government has even closed down some establishments, which have not been complying with environmental sanitation standards. (Charlene Cayabyab)
