Probe ordered in killing of lawyerโs son
JAnuary 18, 2011
STA. RITA – President Benigno Aquino on Monday ordered Philippine National Police (PNP) to prioritize the murder case of Emerson Lozano.
Lozano, 44, the son of lawyer Oliver Lozano, was found dead in Barangay Mancatian in this municipality. His remains had been burnt, forcing operatives to compare the teeth with Lozano’s dental records.
Examination results matched the records.
Aquino, in a statement, said the discovery of what police have identified as the remains of the younger Lozano, points to a grisly crime that is being thoroughly investigated to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
To recall, the younger Lozano had been reported missing since January 12.
Reports from the Quezon City Police District indicated that Lozano, a businessman, was last seen with driver Ernani Sensil at a gasoline station in Old Balara, Quezon City.
Lozano was allegedly abducted along with his driver last Wednesday while reportedly on his way to meet with a client.
The burnt remains of the driver were found in La Paz a day later, and the van itself, which was abandoned, had been recovered.
Initial investigations revealed the younger Lozano was supposed to meet with a prospective buyer of his van in a mall in Commonwealth Avenue on the night of January 12.
“It is still too early to point to a particular suspect or suspects. The public will be updated on the progress of the case, and all steps will be taken in keeping with the serious nature of the crime. I have ordered the police to prioritize the case,” Aquino said.
The younger Lozano’s father is a well-known political lawyer who started his career as the legal counsel of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
The elder Lozano said his son was a generally good person and had not involved himself in his political activities. He said his son may have been a victim of mistaken identity, adding that his son had not received any previous death threats. (Ian Ocampo Flora of Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
