Capitol sets P400-million quarry collection target

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda said Wednesday that she is setting her sights on a P400-million quarry collection target as part of her main priority works for 2012.
β€œWe see a boom in construction activities this year with the projects set under the administration of President Benigno Aquino,” Pineda said, stressing that billions of pesos worth of infrastructure projects are set to commence this year in Luzon and Central Luzon, making Pampanga one of the potential main sources of construction sand.
Pineda said the weighing scales set up by the Provincial Government in different key areas of the province is expected to eradicate overloading problems with truckers and operators and give additional income for the province.
Recently, revenues on quarry operations in the province of Pampanga have reached more than P355.5 million since Governor Lilia Pineda assumed office almost 18 months ago.
Records from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) showed that collections from January to December 26 in 2011 were pegged at P236,130,000.
Records also showed that the province granted gratuitous permits to different municipalities, which led to the delivery of 10,701 truckloads of quarry materials.
The extraction fee for each truck load is P300. For gratuitous permits, if duly converted, will give additional income of P3,257,400.
Pineda said they expect an additional increase this year with an increase of P50 per truck in quarry administrative fee.
She said additional increase in collection translates to more projects and services for Kapampangans.
