P170M set for flood mitigation works

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO β€” Third district Representative Aurelio β€œDong” Gonzales Jr. has set some P170 million for the construction and rehabilitation of vital irrigation projects and flood mitigating infrastructures here.
Gonzales, in a meeting with local farmers led by Provincial Agriculture and Fisheries Council head Ner Sambile, said the funding would enable the development of irrigation works that would help local farmers in the district.
β€œThe funding will give us enough resources to realize the needs of farmers for better irrigation facilities. We have also identified the most urgent of these infrastructure works through consultation with our farmers,” Gonzales said.
The total funding includes the P60 million approved for the irrigation works in Bacolor town as mandated in the Bacolor Rehabilitation Council Act. Funding was also set for irrigation projects in four towns of the district.
Some P24 million was also allocated for the flood mitigation works along the Pampanga Delta and P19.7 million for the Divisoria Communal Irrigation System.
Among those in the priority list of developments are the Mexico Eastern Irrigation System, Pabinlag, Bitas and Del Carmen Irrigation Systems. There are also developments set for the Laput Mini Dam.
Gonzales said these developments are part of the new set of infrastructure development projects for the district set for 2012. He added that infrastructure projects will usher in renewed development and commerce for the beneficiary areas.
