395 Filipinos in Syria have already agreed to be sent home

SOME 395 Filipinos in Syria have already agreed to undergo repatriation although the government has yet to determine whether their reasons for going home are related to the current conflict there.
Twelve Filipinos from Syria are set to arrive in Manila soon but their reason for leaving is work-related, spokesperson Raul Hernandez said.
The group is part of the 395 who have agreed to return home because of political conflict in Syria, where 17,000 Filipinos, mostly undocumented workers and illegal immigrants, are employed.
“In Syria, to date, 395 OFWs have expressed their desire to come home and avail of voluntary repatriation of the Philippine government,” the DFA official said.
Philippine authorities in Syria will continue to convince Filipinos there to avail of the governmentโ€™s repatriation program.
Owing to the possibility of violent attacks in the coming weeks, the Philippines has raised its alert level to 3 in Syria, especially after several Western countries have severed diplomatic ties with the country.
Alert level 3 entails voluntary repatriation while alert level 4 means mandatory evacuation and repatriation.
